Registered Charity, number 328747
Our Trustees
The Fund is governed and managed by a group of Trustees. Initially there were three Trustees, each representing a stage in Brian’s life:
-
Gordon Porter, a transport engineer and a Divisional Director with consultant Mott MacDonald who had met Brian when they were both studying Civil Engineering at the University of Bristol; they remained close friends until Brian’s death
-
David Bayliss, who as Chief Transport Planner at the Greater London Council had guided Brian’s development as a transport planner
-
Martin Richards, Managing Director of The MVA Group, a colleague of Brian’s since 1975.
There are now five Trustees:
-
Nick Dybeck, Brian’s nephew, who retired from H W Martin Safety Fencing Ltd in 2020.
-
Dougie McDonald, who worked for MVA for 25 years from 1989, the year that Brian died. Dougie is a past Chair of the Professional Standards Committee that oversees the Transport Planning Professional accreditation and he retired from Stantec UK Ltd in 2025.
-
Martin Richards OBE, who retired from MVA in 2000 and has since been deeply involved in the education, training and professional recognition of transport planners.
-
Mick Roberts, who, like Brian, was a Director of The MVA Group, having been responsible for MVA’s UK business for many years. Mick retired in 2011.
-
Tom Van Vuren MBE, who started his own modelling and analytics business in 2023 having previously worked for a number of consultancies. He is the current Chair of the Professional Standards Committee that oversees the Transport Planning Professional accreditation.
Martin is the Fund’s Administrator and Nick is the Treasurer.
